As a result of climate change new targets for building energy consumption and carbon emissions have been revised over recent years with the trend towards better levels of conservation of fuel and power.

The 1995 edition of Part L only required assessment of heat loss through the building fabric thus enabling a simple assessment to be made using one-dimensional steady state calculations. This was replaced in 2002 with a major reworking of the approved document (Part L1/L2). This included for the first time the requirement to assess the annual carbon rating of a building which required detailed design considerations for cooling requirement, lighting loads, tighter fabric performance levels and air leakage standards. This is now to be further reduced.

We provide compliance studies and support from pre planning through to design and construction, and design advice on a wide range of Part L1/L2 issues as well as carbon numerical calculations through SAP methods and approved Dynamic Thermal Modelling methods.
